The day seemed to be going forever. Most of the time we spent hopĀping from rock to rock along the bank or worse still in the water. Our feet were saturated and our toes began to resemble wrinkled prunes and were being tenderised by the horrible concussion of man and pack slam ming down on one foot at a time. We travelled for about six miles like this without our feet touching ground. We began to look on the rock- hopper penguin as the most beleaguered animal on earth and determined to set up a fund to care for foot sore penguins if we ever got out.
