The flanks of this harbour are scarred with a badly planned town, bulk oil terminals and a woodchip mill, but these are the things which provide men with work today. The whales are gone but somehow when listening to Bert you get the feeling that there is a kind of crassness about the way we do things today. He admires the life of the blackfellow and as he lets his gaze rest on the stone axes and the spears he says: “Ye know we’re the most dangerous animal on earth, we’re the destroyers, these black people ruined nothing, they lived in Eden and would have lived there forever if we hadn’t come”.
