When the Chip Mill began operation in 1971, the noise and ugly port facilities reduced the attraction of the guest house and after a protracted squabble between the proprietor and the government, it was resumed by the state.
In 1974 it was used as a prison farm and in this period the beautiful fountain was removed to make room for the morning parade ot prisoners. Greater ironies are hard to find.
In 1977 the place was taken over by the Forestry Commission as an Environmental Training School. Edrom is now used y and study groups and other recognised organisations such as Rotary.
