Spearfishing provided some pocket money, but fifteen years ago Phil Eather went to Mallacoota and entered the fledgling (small fry) aba- lone fishing industry. This not only provided Phil with money to live comfortably, but also a chance to indulge his passion to be beneath the sea, ride in super fast boats and in a small way pay for his motor sport.

Phil’s Haines Hunter is one of the fastest boats in the fleet and the Datsun 180B which he prepared for the recent Bega rally, where he fin­ished nineth, is a beautifully prepared car and credit to the spirit of the unsponsored Australian sportsman. Phil’s car was one of the first private entries to finish behind the works machines of Bond, Fury, Ferguson and company.
