Logan was a member of an aristocratic Scottish family who estab­lished vast grazing runs in the Bombala area. John Logan sold all of these holdings and shifted to Twofold Bay on the New South Wales’ south coast in 1908.

Despite the fact that he left school at 14, he was a man of great in­telligence and ingenuity and after purchasing 500 acres of land that was formerly held by Benjamin Boyd, the wealthy colonial Australian pastor – alist and whaler, he set to building a replica of his family’s ancestral home, “Edrom”, in Scotland.
